COOL-MI

Hypothermia as an Adjunctive Therapy to Percutaneous Intervention in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction: COOL-MI

  • Cooling catheter
  • AMI: anterior or large inferior (recip Ds)
  • 1:1 randomization
  • Premeds and Catheter in ER
  • 40 patients/5 centers

This study is a pilot trial examining the feasibility of using a novel temperature-controlling catheter designed and manufactured by Radiant Medical. In this study, hypothermia to 33°C.  is being utilized as an adjunct to primary angioplasty in an effort to preserve myocardium. Animal studies have suggested that  hypothermia may limit myocardial damage in the setting of an acute coronary occlusion.
