Heart Failure Diagnosis, Treatment, & Reversal

Cardiac Advanced Therapies

Stanford University Division of Cardiovascular Medicine has focused on providing the very latest advances in the identification, diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure program for over 30 years. We performed the first U.S. heart transplant in 1968 and since then have had a dedicated team whose primary clinical and research focus has been the person who has been diagnosed with heart failure. During these 30+ years, we have seen over 5000 patients with advanced heart failure and have been able to return many of them to a near normal active life.

The Heart Failure Program is closely allied with specialists in many fields who consult on our patients. These include cardiovascular surgeons, electrophysiologists as well as molecular biologists who bring the very best to each individual patient.

Our patients include the following:

  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Ischemic cardiomyopathy
  • Myocarditis
  • Sarcoid Heart Disease
  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) including new onset, or medically refractory heart failure
  • Second opinion regarding proper diagnosis and care

The Heart Failure Group also operates the Cardiac Advanced Therapies Clinic (CAT) where difficult-to-treat cardiovascular problems are re-evaluated, diagnosed and therapy adjusted in order to provide optimal response to therapy. Many high risk and very ill patients are seen and treated in these clinics. We are also highly experienced in the care of hospitalized and/or less critically ill patients in the coronary care and ICUs. A lifeflight medical transport is available 24 hours per day.
